this compilation lays a nice pleasant backdrop to some of the more experimental and less flashy idm artists out there today. with so much wonderful new music coming out this year i almost forgot about this overshadowed release from this very energetic idm label pitchcadet. this compilation puts out fifteen nice straightforward tracks from several rising artists in the idm scene.

some highlights to release lie within tracks from lexaunculpt, phonem, christian costello, m-tec, kettle, jetone, and arovane. lexaunculpt shows us click and cut style percussives that are engaged with small broken synthetics, samples and light-hearted melodies. while phonem slowly engages beautiful warm pads and cold snappy breaks and slippery percussive aspects that groove nicely around as the track paces forward. one of my favorites on this release that reminds me a little of funckarma stylings.

christian costello introduces "1", that organizes bouncy beats and ancient alien chords under a cast of dark misty pads. while m-tec lightens our hearts with pillowy harmonies and strings that are entangled with interactive light-punchy rhythms and distant frequencies. kettle ascends erratic rhythms that circle and are slowly accompanied by relaxing step pads with the track, "nim."

jetone flows playful alien synth harmonies over a bed of snappy trip-hop rhythms with the track, "marilyn chambers." and arovane gives us "lenc/crade" that uses his signature distant yet warm strings that glide along a sea a quick fragmented rhythms. making a nice ending to this compilation and what is shows to the listener.

if you are just getting into some of the more experimental and less catchy and instantly attractive directions of idm, this just might be something you should look into. or if you have followed some of the clicks and cuts compilations or dub releases, you just might enjoy this one as well.
