seelenfresser

tumor (1999)

power electronics, noise, ebm all tangled and mixed together on this release. some of the tracks on "seelenfresser" are examples of harsh and heavy rhythm'n'noise, others wander into the realm of minimalistic ebm reminding me of :w: but noisier, harsher and more minimal. there are couple of slip-ups on the album - straight noise manipulations that are rather pointless and irritating.

"seelenfresser" seems rather disjointed and hard to listen at first, but after playing the cd several times this feeling [almost] disappears. "sargnagel" is among thr tracks that caught my attention - it is quite interesting composition with analog bleeps, rotating machinery sounds; cold and caustic with wet pulsing noises. next one, "meister des blutes", has fast-paced beats, cold synth on the background; clean and sharp at times it plunges into swirling noise rhythm that is quite catchy. "deathrace 666" - minimalistic-techno-noise dance hybrid, a mechanical mutant, one of the highlights of the album. first several seconds of "medic" starts out almost exactly like wumpscut and the rest of the track progresses along the same lines. "come to daddy" - silly and harsh track with skull-fracturing percussion and "come to daddy" samples all over the place. "return of the fleisch" is another wonderful track with its constantly changing ebm rhythm and minimalistic noisy beats.

the presence of synth and keyboards throughout the album makes sound more interesting and not completely machine-like (like it usually happens with a lot of noise projects). the band definitely needs to bring some more cohesiveness to its sound (at least within each song). i am looking forward to their future releases, meanwhile tumor started to appear on some compilations (awake the machines 2, death-compilation to name a few).
