travis bickle vs. enzym

it appears to be the first release on bohnerwachs label; the band name and the label are both unknown to me. first time I stumbled on its mention on c8 tunes page, and after on I was able to obtain this release.

first side of this vinyl belongs to travis bickle and starts with organic ambient noises and cut-up small sounds of bird chirps and children's voices. analog keys and reluctant drops of percussion slowly enter, entangling this playground atmosphere in a slowly growing web of abrasive percussion drops and rearranged minimal percussion textures a'la autechre. on background the playground is still alive covered with thick layer of static noises. at the same time subtle dreamy strings carefully find its way through this sound collage and give this track an emotional side.

overall it is a very interesting ambient track that managed to combine in a seamless way multitude of samples, experimental abrasiveness and broken patterns with dense sound collages and even a nice emotional touch.

second side is the track by enzym. it is more minimal and starts with humming patterns and clicks and bleeps that could establish a reference to the world of pan sonic. little swirling noises bounce within the boundaries built by this minimal geometry. a little later distant analog touches emerge from the background and add one more dimension to the music. eventually theeir participation grows on you creating a peculiar atonal harmony that's is both soft and full of sharper edges.

altogether this was more of a sound manipulation, amusing, yet very "flat" sounding. travis bickle however makes this little record definitely worth listening for anyone with the taste for nicely twisted digital textures.
