skeleton skeletron
well, this is my tribute to the old days when i used to listen to "wildhoney", "clouds" and even "the astral sleep" again and again. in the early nineties tiamat quickly evolved from death/doom metal to a unique sound that used acoustic guitars, keyboards and monumental beautiful orchestrations.
this album doesn't have the power and ambience of previous releases - gone are the epic compositions and energy of the pevious albums. there are still traces of the old sound left, but they just remind about the "old days". sadly, those "old days" were the best for tiamat when they enjoyed well-deserved popularity, and their records were everywhere. seems like current sound is more mature, quiet and "faceless" often leaving the listener unmoved. "brighter than the sun" is the song that is the most noticeable on the disk - it features female backing vocals, some keyboard on the background and a decent melody that every once in a while revives that cold and exotic charm tiamat was famous for.
overall "skeleton skeletron" is still a decent release with catchy melodies and nice sound of guitars blended with keyboards and strong vocals. fans that managed to evolve together with the band and new generation of modern metal listeners should check out this new tiamat.
