skoobar, ping pong
this short 12" is the most recent output by swayzak. "skoobar" opens slowly with minimal percussion; later on familiar bass lines join in and warm atonal swaying motive establishes itself. dreamy and slowly traveling melody that every once in a while features additional beats and patterns; random short frequency moves. this track elegant and flowing track is a little more rigid than usual swayzak; but it still establishes that familiar warm, laid-back comfortable mood, exploring and unfolding sonic textures in front of the listener.
"ping-pong" is a lot more playful; it fascinates with simple rhythms and small noises with cut-up short vocal samples. small little beats later on are joined by very simple short videogame sounds; further along, basslines are contrasted by sparse touches of melodic keys. small compressed static explosions float on the background, adding even more transparent layers to the music.
it is amazing how all those simple elements slowly build on top of each other, developing a graceful and playful warm atmosphere that does not really go anywhere, but simply stays around, teasing, changing, moving and yet never leaving the listener, remaining close and very tangible. intricate yet minimal arrangements of so few simple elements create this peculiar harmony and mood that I have always appreciated in swayzak.
