dystopia
this is one of those cds that I have discovered after it has been collecting dust on my cd rack where it got after an initial listen. I suppose that at that time "dystopia" just did not fit the mood I was in, and therefore its peculiar atmosphere was something I had to spend some time getting into.
"dystopia" turned out to be quite an addicting album - I have been listening to it almost every day for past week, and each time there was something about its low-tech twisted sci-fi atmosphere that captured me.
demented deep basslines and strings, unexpected fast-paced percussion eruptions, fading atmospheric passages and layers of rolling twisted techno pierced by strange and funky vocal samples are the general elements in silk saw's rich mixture.
hi-speed low-fi alien grooves overlaid with bizarre breaks and voice samples resurrect some of the moonsanto funkiness at the same time bubbling and pulsing with hypnotizing organic techno textures that result in peculiar black lung flashbacks. once i have identified the similarity to the latter band, it kept coming back on almost every track; this was not as much of a "technical" similarity, but more of the resemblance on atmospheric level. both projects create mysterious and surreal landscapes with unexpected developments that surprise the listener each time the cd is played.
just like with black lung, this is a release that you would find in your cd player again and again. behind its seemingly simple façade there's depth, energy and solid atmosphere that simply will not let you go.
