schizoid (2000)

at times this projects comes close to the idea that I had in mind ever since I heard first releases from dhr, early atari teenage riot in particular. at that time i wanted to hear heaviness of thrash metal mixed with ferocity of gabber and density of noise. unfortunately, the only one I know that managed to come up close to that ideal was alec empire with his early atari teenage riot releases.

teenage angst and maximalism always resulted in uncompromising and "pure" music, starting from punk years ago, continuing with early rivetheads. although it would be oversilmplified to extend this approach to every project out there, it's the case with schizoid. most of the songs lack heaviness I expected and seem to be merely a collection of poor electronics, processed guitar elements, all glued together by hatred and extreme growling vocals. at times I did see the elements that did hint something interesting, but the band never pursued them, sticking with low-tech punk attitude. overall, I would like to see more density where electronics should be slightly backed by guitar and extreme vocals along the same lines. there's definitely the room to grow, and seems like the band has chosen an interesting direction that more consumer-oriented projects did not dare to explore.
