ominous silence
Submerse into the forbidding soundscapes of isolationist Northaunt. Here you may escape the "Real world" and allure the mind with heartless and shallow environments that will untame your soul for forty-three minutes and thirty-seven seconds.
First discovered through another Norwegian darkwave/ambient artist, Metus Mortus, Northaunt presents another twisted tale in this genre. Northaunt is comprised of a creature called Hærleif on synth, sound designs, and recording and Ketil S. on guitars. Together they build desolate nordic melodies that evolve into sacred origins of the unknown.
With the opening tale, "Might & Misanthropy", you swallow the subtle sounds of moving water, droning intensified strings, bleak piano elements and acoustic guitars that open your coldest thoughts and curiosities. A distant wandering creature emerges from the depth of the forest in the end only to lead you into your next six nightmares.
You awake in the tombs of the unknown to find out that a voice is leading you into the next life, pushing and taunting you to move on, to approach the pathways you have yet to choose. You continue to move on with your confusion, seeking and fearing the unknown, feeling your way through the dark passageways, following the melodic and abysmal strings that give you slight hope of finding a way out.
Slowly, but surely you discover luminosity beyond a corridor of the cryptic tomb. But it is something supernatural, and you are "Running out of time" - you must escape and leave the unknown alone. So you move on finding your way out of the endless grave and approach the rainy forest once more, a piano harmony leads you astray. You run as savagely as you can in the rain, until you are suddenly hit by a solid heavy object which knocks you cold.
You awake once more, again somewhere in the tomb, only to find out this time your legs are broken and your tongue has been cut out. You cannot walk or scream for help, you just lie there dreaming, hearing the voices of the old ones surround and smother your very thoughts.
