melotron (2000)

it did take me some time to get into new melotron’s sound and understand where the band was heading. after my not-so-favorable review of their latest full-length, I took some time to listen to it a few more times and grew to like new, nicely orchestrated and more complex sound of the band.

at this point I think it is safe to say that the band has moved from easily acceptable simple synthpop sounds to more advanced arrangements with catchy passages, still with incredibly addictive vocals and all that newly acquired charm that I overlooked earlier.

danceable, light and fluid “du bist es nicht wert” grabs your attention immediately moving between more persistent firm rhythms and poppy danceable motives. relatively simple “alles von dir,” is a tribute to the days past, building simple harmony with the contrast of straightforward beat that breaks out into beautiful and catchy chorus; “wenn es nichts mehr dibt” is yet another pleasant track evoking pure melancholic mood.

all in all, this is not necessarily a step forward, but another release to strengthen the success of the previous album, definitely a 100% pure quality synthpop representing best qualities of the genre.
