dos partes
this time the direction of this project takes us on another sentimental and introspective journey through rural life in the cities of borgerhout, new york, mexico city, and los angeles of late fall last year until march 2001. consisting of a total of eleven collaborators on this project, llips gets a whole lot more complex and diversified bringing us new insights to their luminous soundscapes. consisting of members koen lybaert from starfish pool, jeff mcillwain of luisine icl, and members of zeal and cinerex, amongst many other guest musicians and female vocalists ivy smits, laura rebuttini, and ester santoyo. the disk contains four new compositions and one remix of the original "unalaska" by luisine icl.
containing much of the appeal the "smell" lp and starfish pool’s "rituals for the dying" and "illusions of move" series, llips pushes these directions along with many new surreal elements along the way. i cannot single out any particular track, because they all contain beautiful elements as a whole. the mood arrangements created within utilize focusing through harmonious landscapes of colliding strings, vocals, subtle abstract rhythms, acoustical instruments, and various synthetic ever-changing atmospheres.
track four, "alitas" for example, starts out with children playing in the water somewhere on a beautiful day while distant vibrating melodies accent this innocent event. soft and slowly merging strings place themselves into the picture swelling and gathering as distant feminine voices fade and recycled rhythms gain seed in the composition. and further bass elements and subtle organ and piano pieces emerge and fade away into the falling sunset.
some of very best material out there focusing on surreal electronic directions, and most interesting, need I say more.
