feindflug (1999)
anton · December 22, 1999

this album is a digipack re-release of 1997 album; it is rumored that this band is very controversial in germany for its usage of 3rd reich radio samples.

musically, feindflug uses the elements from rhythm'n'noise and ebm/electro genres. the result is very militant, dense and distorted mix that most of the time is suitable for club play, and while the lyrics is absent from the disk, there are plenty of samples to maintain the intensity of atmosphere.

the tracks that attracted my attention include "alptraum" that starts with nice and clean keys that are joined by strings and pounding breakbeats. it features militant distorted ebm-like sound with extremely heavy beats and moments of ambience filled with subdued machine noises and crazy german-spoken samples. "leitbild" is one of the most prominent tracks on the album with straightforward pounding percussion backed by militant electro and layers of processed noise. very militant, straightforward.

the nightmarish journey continues with "stukas im visier" that starts out in the minimalistic vein of suicide commando and then breaks out into dense pulsing nightmare filled with exploding distorted beats and bombastic percussion; dancefloor-killing track.

"foltersequenz" is a great example of rhythm'n'noise - a sound that is noisy and very rhythmic with a lot of layered feedback with quite interesting percussion passages. "gestaendnis" is a slow beat-heavy track that is quite addictive and clean.

for some reason, i kept thinking that this is how :w: should be sounding like nowadays - militant aggression, harsh distorted ebm that explores and spans new genres creating that familiar intense atmosphere that rudy was so famous for. but, i guess i should just write the "master of endzeit electro" off and stop making comparisons like that.

feindflug is yet another of those new bands on the electro scene today that explores the genre that most likely will be the next step ebm/electro will take.
