deep inside
this short single was somewhat surprising for me. I have always regarded die form as a unique mix of darkwave and sensuous erotica. that’s why “deep inside” was so unexpected for me. this track is straight pulsing ebm with demonic, eerie feel enhanced by floating ethereal voice of eliane and philippe’s processed vocals. unexpectedly harsh swirling noises and steady pulsing beat makes this track surprisingly edgy and very club-oriented.
corroded atmospheric beginning of “mask of noise” transforms into crushing compressed beats that mix ebm ferocity with almost tribal uneasy atmosphere. handful of small liquid noises and organic elements add a nice chaotic touch to this track. l’ame immortelle mix of the title song is a polished club-oriented work that is undeniably catchy, but built somewhat standard straightforward old school electro approach.
altogether this is probably the most “industrial” and heaviest collection of the tracks on one disk up to this date. die form’s work should not be taken out of context and evaluated outside of live performance and evocative imagery. although it seems like that band has tamed down their legendary s&m/bondage image, it should be interesting to see what they came up with on the upcoming boxset that along with the full-length album includes a 32 page booklet (not to mention yet another upcoming tape of die form videography).
