this delta files is probably one of the earliest works of olivier moreau I heard. released on legendary re-load ambient with the help from john sellekaers, it fits the format of the label perfectly, closely matching the moods created by "devious destiny" (seekness), one of my favorite releases from that label.
all tracks on this cd are composed from dark, bass-filled gorgeous ambient sweeps, sparse pulses and abrasive explosions built around steady percussion passages. phantasmagoric mix of mysterious ambient textures and crunchy, at times technoid, percussion hints future directions that olivier and john pursued - starting with torsion, continuing with ambre on one hand and with axiome and imminent on the other.
opening "diagnose" is truly an epic track - beautiful dark strings, heavy steady percussion, sparse explosive crashes and reverberating heavy mechanized breathing backed by soaring chorus and churning noises. its richness and monumental splendor remind me of sephiroth while percussive moments add truly original touch to the music.
tracks that follow (like "syndrome", "immunity") continue along the same lines, with varying percussion intensity. slowly developing rhythmic pattern accompanied by hollow cold strings; at certain moments the music reminded me of edgier parts of "rituals for the dying" by starfish pool.
I would have a hard time trying to classify this release; it certainly is an atmosphere-building work; no matter how ambient it is, there is a certain dark groove that's present on every track; a direction that strangely enough brings up memories of "maps of the impossible" by xingu hill, that I happened to listen to at the same time. this is yet another release that withstands a test of time, enveloping the listener in its rich unique sound, developing its own blend of rhythmic ambient.
