I think that this celluloid mata album became the one that finally has completely reversed my initial opinion about the band. it took me a few months and few albums to get into the sound of celluloid mata.

it has been a slow process, but gradually I have acquired the taste for the intentionally monotonous sound patterns, where intensity is built upon refined percussives that are backed by slowly changing and evolving elements.

I suppose similarity to organic pulsing on one hand and contrast with monotonous mechanized environments on another is what makes celluloid mata so addicting. plus behind the monotony of each single track is subtle variation that becomes even more apparent from track to track on this release where it moves from minimal small technoid percussion to repetitive aggressive explosions that trade places with harmonious, almost soothing passages that yet retain definite mechanized edge. "rhizome" for instance combines minimal broken pulses that steadily and monotonously build the foreground for deep subtle strings. following "cyborg colony" pushes the intensity to the next level adding crunchy abrasiveness and force to the percussion. one of the most prominent tracks on this cd, "synd altered rains imago" together with purely "industrial" sound of "exit liquid" squeal and explode with the intensity that for a moment reminded me of early imminent starvation. detached strings bring back the balance to "shore."

each piece taken by itself is almost completely monochromatic, but altogether they form a well-balanced and diverse album with variety of moods and rhythms. I think this album should be heard in its entirety before any comparisons and judgments could be made; for me it was almost an instant fascination prepared by numerous other releases by the band that preceded "invasion of."
