Engage the furious and passionate work of one of the best newly discovered acts to rise from the shadows of Detroit, MI. After being blown away by their Cleveland performance @ the Phantasy with ISC/Das Ich, I immediately had to buy their cd. And in surprise, I was completely mesmerized how well produced and engineered this cd was for being on their own label. I simply have no complaints. This imperious trinity consists of vocalists & programming technician Peter Kornblum, programming & visual tactics specialists Marc Church, and synth and backing voxx specialists Dave Stechschulte. Having been in several other bands over the years and working with several musicians, Peter & Marc assimilate their strongest points to completely focus on Backspace.
Take on some of the very best elements of Individual Totem, Pulse Legion, and Abscess and combine with some old school elements of electro. Tracks such as "Mirror", "Lies of Angels", and "Shadow Vision" lean on the more flowing synth intricacy of Abscess with more emphasis on atmospheric revolving strings and enduring synthetic harmonies.
Compositions such as "Havok" and "Shame" hold nicely to electro styling similar to Pulse Legion. These tracks prove favorable to all dee jays for the dancefloor. My absolute favorite tracks are "Why Me" & "Sister (remix)." Both tracks compose the very best of piano elements, phased bass synths, resonance patterns, dense percussive elements, unrelentless harmonies, and emotionally driven voxx. The original mix of "Sister" presents itself to be just as strong as the remix, if not better in a different perspective. It seems to have a more spacey streaming electro feel, similar to that of Individual Totem's work. Overall, this release is one of the best new electro/industrial works of this year, and a strong one to watch out for in the future, for the strong can only get stronger.
