galactic edge

this review is merely an addition to a detailed description of full-length "galactic supermarket" that is available here. this vinyl contains three exclusive tracks together with three others that made it to the full-length cd. and the former will be the ones I will pay my attention to.

"longivity" starts out with limping loops that slowly develop into a minimal dance melody with sparse distorted beats ripping through background layers. swirling loops overlap with the main line of the track, cold sound waves are contrasted by high-pitched noises, the tempo changes several times becoming a relaxed journey that frequently switches directions and finally dissolves in soft atmospheric waves.

funny crippled beats start out "lowfidelio" until thicker jumpy drum'n'bass kicks in with firm beats backed by cut-up synths, torn percussion and unique bouquets of subtle thick sounds that soften the music built around minimal drum'n'bass rhythm. heavily processed analog noises add a slight funky edge to the track.

"the edge" is a lot more percussion-oriented than previous tracks with mysterious transparent soundstructures that are dominated by strong beats. explosions, clicks, buzzes, fading synthlines emerge and disappear to be never heard again, while the rest of the track carries on.

as usual with architect's work, the sound and atmosphere are completely unique, and only with great difficulty you can come up with any comparisons. the sound that incorporates early industrial experiences, best of decaying drum'n'bass, excellent ambient structures and leaves plenty of room for your own creative thinking is a weak attempt to describe architect. top 5 on my list last year, and a companion for countless long sleepless nights.
